FUO to Hold First Distinguished Public Lecture
Fountain University, Osogbo will on June 26, 2018 hold a Distinguished Public Lecture, the first in the series to be organised by the institution.
In a statement issued by the Chairman Organizing Committee,
Dr. Salman AbdSalam, the public lecture is driven by the need to understand African culture and its innovation, with a view to understanding Yoruba Oral Poetry and its benefits.
Themed, ‘African Culture and Creative Innovations: Some Reflections of Yoruba Oral Poetry and Travelling Theatre in Osun State’, the lecture is to be delivered by Professor Karin Barber, a cultural anthropologist from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The distinguished public lecture is to hold at the Amina Namadi Sambo Multi-Purpose Hall on the university campus.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Amidu Olamilekan Sanni is the Chief host. Important guests and dignitaries are expected to grace the event from across the country and beyond.
The guest lecturer, Prof. Karin Barber is a cultural anthropologist whose research interests span Yoruba culture, religion, oral and written literature. Prof Barber teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on the popular culture of Africa, African religion and rituals. She also teaches the Yoruba language at beginner level.
